The NICEIC Domestic Periodic Inspecting Reporting Scheme is designed to provide domestic contractors who perform Periodic Inspection Reporting in dwellings with independent recognition of their skills and to provide a definitive register of inspectors to householders, landlords and other specifiers.
Periodic Inspection is the inspection of the condition of an existing electrical installation, identifying in order of priority any deficiencies against the national safety standard for electrical installations.
A Periodic Inspection will:
- reveal if any electrical circuits or equipment is overloaded
- find any potential shock and fire hazards in the installation
- identify any defective DIY electrical work
- highlight any lack of earthing or bonding
Tests are also carried out on wiring and associated fixed electrical equipment to check that it is safe and a schedule of circuits is developed during the inspection.
